CHHATTISGARH

  • Chhattisgarh govt’s proposed move to categorize private hospitals draws flak
  • The private hospitals under Chhattisgarh Indian Medical Association (CIMA) have opposed the state government’s proposed move to categorize the private hospitals under the four categories- A, B, C and D based on the medical facilities being provided to the beneficiaries availing treatments under government schemes and insurance health covers.

  • Chhattisgarh’s IMA has pointed out that once the hospital will be labelled under B, C and D categories, the percentage of payments made under health smart cards will gradually decrease. Health smart cards are issued to beneficiaries to avail treatment under government health schemes including Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna(RSBY) and Mukhyamantri Swasthaya Bima Yojana (MSBY) for cashless treatment worth Rs 50,000.

  • For this, a self-assessment form has been issued to the private hospitals to furnish the same details of medical services and facilities owned by hospitals, which are already provided by the hospitals while registering under Nursing Home Act. This ‘categorization system’ will lead to unnecessary interference by medical insurance companies and Third Party Associations (TPAs) which were not cooperative in making timely payments pending under the health smart cards to the private hospitals. This may affect acceptance of health smart cards in private hospitals.

  • It was found in the survey that only 17% private hospitals agreed for cashless payments from third parties, while 83% of the hospitals gave their consent for accepting direct payment from the patients.

  • About the government health insurance schemes, 79 percent of private hospitals said these are not good for private health care providers while 21 percent termed it as good for private healthcare providers.
