Chhattisgarh govt replies to governor’s queries over 76 per cent reservation bills
Amidst the impasse over reservation, the Chhattisgarh government has replied to the 10-point queries raised by governor Anusuiya Uikey over the bills, passed by a special session of the legislative assembly, for enhancing the state’s overall reservation to 76 per cent.
Am imbroglio over reservation is prevailing in Chhattisgarh after the state high court set aside a 2012 state government order enhancing the overall reservation to 58 per cent.
The high court had also held that any reservation over and above 50 per cent was unconstitutional.
The high court decision resulted in reservation percentage reverting back to the level of what was prevailing during undivided Madhya Pradesh — 20 per cent for Scheduled tribes, 16 per cent for scheduled castes and 14 per cent for other backward classes.
