The Saur Sujala scheme of the Chhattisgarh government is proving to be a boon to farmers. The scheme aims at providing better irrigation facilities.
The use of solar pumps is not only helping in conserving groundwater but is also strengthening the rural economy apart from boosting agricultural production.
Tirath Ram, a farmer of Bilha block’s Limha village, thanks the scheme for making him prosperous by taking to multiple crops.
He is emerging as an inspiration for other farmers by cultivating crops like chickpeas, wheat and masoor besides paddy using the solar pump provided under the scheme.
Tirath Ram said his fields are irrigated for the whole day through the solar pump. He is now completely free from the worry of electricity bills.
26% of world lacks clean drinking water, 46% sanitation: UN
A new report launched on the eve of the first major U.N. conference on water in over 45 years says 26% of the world’s population doesn’t have access to safe drinking water and 46% lack access to basic sanitation.
The U.N. World Water Development Report 2023 painted a stark picture of the huge gap that needs to be filled to meet U.N. goals to ensure all people have access to clean water and sanitation by 2030.
According to the report, water use has been increasing globally by roughly 1% per year over the last 40 years “and is expected to grow at a similar rate through to 2050, driven by a combination of population growth, socio-economic development and changing consumption patterns.”
Japanese PM Kishida invites PM Modi to G7 Hiroshima summit
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has formally invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 Summit after both had a delegation-level talk at Delhi’s Hyderabad House.
PM Modi said that PM Kishida’s visit will be helpful to maintain a momentum of mutual cooperation between India and Japan. He pointed out the importance of leading two significant summits, G20 and G7, by respective countries.

US Chambers of Commerce has published the International Intellectual Property Index 2023 and ranked India at 42 among 55 global economies.
While the US topped the report, UK and France come next to the US. The report shows an in-depth assessment of intellectual property rights like patent and copyright policies of each economy across the world.

UIDAI Initiates AI-based Fingerprint for Aadhar Card
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched an AI-based Fingerprint Authentication for all Aadhar Card users.
Through this, quick detection of fraudulent attempts can be done and this will also check the liveliness of the fingerprint.
The UIDAI officials have urged all entities to switch over to the newly developed secured facility. Two technologies have been used in creating this provision which is Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
