CHHATTISGARH C’garh among 5 states asked to nominate representative Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal has issued notice under Rule 4 of the Inter-State River Water Disputes Rules, 1959 to the State Governments of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra to nominate their representatives for adjudication of Mahanadi River Water Disputes latest by August 6, 2018. CHHATTISGARH Mahanadi row must be ended politically, not legally  The Mahanadi, which is the most important river for Odisha, is an interstate river. The total catchment area of the Mahanadi basin is 141,600 square kilometers, of which 54% is in Chhattisgarh, 46% in Odisha. In the monsoon, the Mahanadi’s discharge is almost the same as that of the Ganges. In the dry season, however, the river becomes a narrow channel. CHHATTISGARH Centre okays setting up of tribunal for settling mahanadi water dispute  The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the proposal for adjudication of dispute on Mahanadi River waters. The Tribunal shall determine water sharing among basin States on the basis of the overall availability of water in the complete Mahanadi basin, contribution of each State, the present utilization of water resources in each State and the potential for future development.
