11.7% population in state suffering from mental illness
AmidChhattisgarhwitnessing young suicides in past few years along with emerging trend of addiction of various kinds, a study by SIMHANS mentions that 11.7 percent of Population of the state suffers from mental illness.
The increase in incidents of road rage, crime, rapes are not the signs of mental well being, and insisted to inculcate mental Health Education in the school curriculum of children.
It was also suggested that the doctors themselves need to be sensitive to ask key questions to their patients and medical courses should have an exam on medical mental health for all streams.

Chennai: Startups create 7.67 lakh jobs in India in 6 years
Startups in India have generated around 7.67 lakh jobs in the last six years (as of June 30) with majority of the EMPLOYMENT generated inMaharashtra, the commerce ministry told theLok Sabha. Around 72,000 startups have registered themselves under Department for Promotion of and Internal Trade (DPIIT’s) Startup India scheme in the last six years (2016-2022) with 2022 alone recording 12,341 registrations nationally, minister of state for commerce Som Prakash said.
Maharashtra topped the job creation list with more than 1.46 lakh people employed at the state’s startups. Despite housing the country’s tech hub, Karnataka was a distant second with over 1.03 lakh jobs, and Delhi ranked third with 87,643 jobs. The total number of employment generated is self-reported by the startups recognized by the DPIIT as of June 30, the minister said. In terms of the number of startups registered in the last six years, Maharashtra again takes the first position with 13,519, followed by Karnataka at 8,881, Delhi at 8,636, andUttar Pradeshat 6,654.
NDRF carries out pan-India security audit of ropeways
TheNDRFhas begun a nationwide survey ofpassenger cable carsandropewaysystems to find out possiblesecurity flawsin them and to prepare a structural blueprint that will help it launch effective rescue operations in case of an emergency.
The federal contingency force has also decided to train its rescuers in specific ropeway rescue skills apart from purchasing an assortment of tools like pulleys and carabiners to be used for transporting the salvager and evacuating stranded people from the car hanging in the air. The move comes as at least four ropeway-related incidents, including one inUttarakhand, have been reported in the country so far this year.
The aim of the exercise is to not only sensitise the operators of this mode of transport about the precautions they should practise and preparations they should have, it will also give us an action plan which can be used during emergencies and disasters that hit the ropeway system.
Kilo class submarineINSSindhudhvaj decommissioned
The Navys Kilo-class submarine,INSSindhudhvaj, was decommissioned from service on Saturday at Visakhapatnam after 35 years in service. With this, the Navy now has 15 conventional submarines in service.
Commissioned into the Navy in June 1987, Sindhudhvaj, was one of the 10 Kilo-class submarines India acquired from Russia between 1986 and 2000. Of these,INSSindhurakshak was lost in an accident in Mumbai harbour in August 2013, while Sindhuvir was transferred to Myanmar in 2020, making it the South East Asian nations first underwater platform.
