John William Theodore Youngs

  • John William Theodore Youngs (usually cited as J. W. T. Youngs, known as Ted Youngs; 21 August 1910 Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, India – 20 July 1970 Santa Cruz, California) was an American mathematician.
  • Youngs was the son of a missionary. He completed his undergraduate study at Wheaton College and received his PhD from Ohio State University in 1934 under Tibor Radó. He then taught for 18 years at Indiana University, where for eight years he was chair of the mathematics department.Famous Personalities of Chhattisgarh
  • From 1964 he was a professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he developed the mathematics faculty and was chair of the academic senate of the university.
  • Youngs worked in geometric topology, for example, questions on the Frechét-equivalence of topological maps.
  • He is famous for the Ringel–Youngs theorem (i.e. Ringel and Youngs’s 1968 proof of the Heawood conjecture), which is closely related to the analogue of the four-color theorem for surfaces of higher genus.
  • John Youngs was a consultant for Sandia National Laboratories, the Rand Corporation and the Institute for Defense Analyses as well as a trustee for Carver Research Foundation Institute in Tuskegee. In 1946–1947 he was a Guggenheim Fellow. At the University of Santa Cruz a mathematics prize for undergraduates in named after him.

Vallabhacharya

  • Vallabhacharya (1479–1531 CE), also known as Vallabha, was a devotional philosopher, who founded the Krishna-centered Pushti sect of Vaishnavism in the Braj region of India, and the philosophy of Shuddha advaita (Pure Nondualism)
  • He authored many texts including the Anubhashya (a commentary on Brahm Sutra), Shodash Granth or sixteen ‘stotras’ (tracts) and several commentaries on the Bhagavata Purana.
  • Vallabha’s writings and kirtan compositions focus on baby Krishna and his childhood pranks with Yashoda (unconditional motherly love), as well as a youthful Krishna in relationship (erotic mysticism) with cowherding women as the many lilas (pastimes) of Krishna, Krishna’s protection of the good (divine grace) and his victory over demons and evils, all with allegory and symbolism.
  • His legacy is best preserved in the Braj region, and particularly at Nathdwara in Mewar region of India – an important Krishna pilgrimage center.

PadmShri Punaram Nishad

  • PadmShri Punaram Nishad, born in Ringni, Dist Durg Chhattisgarh, is an Indian folk musician, known for his prowess in the Pandavani, a folk music tradition of Chhattisgarh and the neighbouring states in India.
  • Born in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, (then Madhya Pradesh) to a Bhajan singer, he started learning the art from the age of 10 under Jhadu Ram Dewangan, considered by many as the father of Pandvani, and aligned with the Vedamati tradition of Pandavani, which follows a rigid text, and does not permit improvisations

  • Pukhraj Bafna is an Indian pediatrician and adolescent health consultant, known for his contributions towards tribal child and adolescent health.
  • The Government of India honored Bafna in 2011, with the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri

Vinod Kumar Choubey

  • Vinod Kumar Choubey, KC was an Indian Police Service officer of 1998 batch who was killed in an encounter with naxalites in the Rajnandgaon ambush on July 2009.
  • Choubey was posthumously awarded with peacetime gallantry award Kirti Chakra

Chandrashekhar Shankar Dharmadhikari

  • Chandrashekhar Shankar Dharmadhikari (Dr.C.S.Dharmadhikari) (20 November 1927, Raipur, Madhya Pradesh, India is an Indian independence movement activist, a lawyer, a judge and an author.
  • He was acting chief justice of Bombay High Court. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2003.
  • He has authored many books in the Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati languages.

Raja Bahadur Kamakhya Narain Singh

  • Raja Bahadur Kamakhya Narain Singh (10 August 1916 – 1970) of Ramgarh, Jharkhand was the zamindar of Ramgarh Raj and later a politician.
  • He was educated at Rajkumar College, Raipur and at Mayo College, Ajmer. He became the Raja of Ramgarh in 1919 upon death of his father, Raja Lakshmi Narain Singh. He served as the Vice-President of the Bihar Landholder’s Association and the All India Kshatriya Mahasabha.
  • He was also Member of the Managing Committee and General Council of Rajkumar College; Member of the Executive Body of the Bihar War Committee. He served as president of Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha in 1943 and 1953.
  • He was married to Maharani Lalita Rajya Lakshmi Devi, daughter of Supradipta Manyabara Lt.Gen. Maharajkumar Singha Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana of Nepal in 1936. They had a son, Indra Jitendra Narain Singh.
  • He entered politics in 1946 following the formal accession of the Ramgarh state into the Indian Republic. In 1952 Bihar Assembly elections, he contested from Dhanbad as a candidate of Swatantra Party but was defeated by a noted freedom-fighter and labor rights leader, Purushottam K. Chauhan.
  • Later in the Bihar Assembly Elections of 1967, serious opposition was offered by the Raja Bahadur’s Swatantra Party to the ruling Congress government.
  • The Raja Bahadur and his younger brother, Dr. Basant Narain Singh, became Cabinet Ministers in the government headed by Chief Minister of Bihar, Mahamaya Prasad Sinha. He resigned from the party because he was not made the Deputy Chief Minister.
  • In late 1960s, Kamakhya Narayan Singh was popularly an aspirant for Rajput supremacy in Bihar against Rajput stalwart, Sri Satyendra Narain Singh (then known as “Coming Chief Minister of Bihar”) but was outmanoeuvred. His party later merged with the Janata party. Many of his family members became important political functionaries and legislators

Naik Kaushal Yadav

  • Naik Kaushal Yadav was squad commander in 9 Para. He fought in 1999 Kargil War between India and Pakistan.
  • He was awarded India’s third highest gallantry award Vir Chakra posthumously.

Anurag Basu

  • Anurag Basu is an India television-advertiser, reality show-judge, director, actor, screenwriter and producer. He began his directing career in television, moving to feature films in 2002.

  • Later, he directed Comedy-drama films such as Barfi! and Jagga Jasoos.

Harshad Mehta

  • Harshad Mehta was an Indian stockbroker, well known for his wealth and for having been charged with numerous financial crimes that took place in 1992. Of the 27 criminal charges brought against him, he was only convicted of four, before his death at age 47 in 2001.
  • It was alleged that Mehta engaged in a massive stock manipulation scheme financed by worthless bank receipts, which his firm brokered in “ready forward” transactions between banks.
  • Mehta was convicted by the Bombay High Court and Supreme Court of India for his part in a financial scandal valued at 4999 Crores which took place on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
  • The scandal exposed the loopholes in the Indian banking system, Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) transaction system and SEBI further introduced new rules to cover those loopholes. He was tried for 9 years, until he died in late 2001
